The merger between Barnabas Health and Robert Wood Johnson Health System has brought specific benefits to Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus as well. Community members who seek treatment at Monmouth South now have seamless access to a comprehensive continuum of care offered by RWJBarnabas Health which includes 11 acute care hospitals, three children's hospitals, a pediatric rehab hospital, an extensive outpatient network, physician practices, medical groups, comprehensive cancer services and research.

2016 was a very busy and successful year for Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus. Early last year, the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Center was relocated to the main hospital near Outpatient Services and women's health services were expanded and enhanced to include screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, surgery consultation and high risk cancer assessment. In November, the one-of-a-kind, James and Sharon Maida Geriatrics Institute opened its doors providing integrated inpatient and outpatient geriatric services for patients 65 and older in one convenient location. With many interlinked services, the experts in the Geriatrics Institute provide individualized care recommendations to ensure that patients receive the special care they require, without interfering with their independence.

Several other large-scale projects were completed last year as well, including renovations to the grounds, parking areas and to the façade of the Route 9 side of the building which is now called The River Avenue Pavilion entrance. The Outpatient Infusion Unit was updated and enhanced as well as expanded to better serve more patients and now provides state-of-the-art technology in semi-private and private rooms. In addition, an Oncology Rehabilitation Program was developed to assist all cancer patients and survivors in need and the Cancer Support Community opened its doors at 199 Prospect Street to provide anyone who is affected by cancer - the patient, family, friends, and caregivers - with access to free programs, regardless of where they're treated.

Monmouth South has made great strides in patient satisfaction as well. They placed within the top 10 performers in New Jersey for the 1st Quarter of 2017 in regards to Cleanliness of the Hospital, Communication with Nurses, and Responsiveness of Hospital Staff. Monmouth South was also one of the top five performers in the RWJBarnabas Health System for Overall Rating of the Hospital, Response of Hospital Staff, Hospital Environment, Ambulatory Surgery, Cleanliness of Hospital and the Emergency Department.

There is now much to look forward to in the coming months. Monmouth South has started the process to introduce new pieces of technology into the hospital including a mobile C-Arm X-Ray system and an upgraded MRI scanner that will enable radiologists to obtain the highest resolution full-body images, faster. Pieces have also been put into motion to launch a new Vascular Program that will bring excellence in care for peripheral vascular disease to Monmouth South.  In addition, new physicians and specialists are being introduced every week to enhance and expand services offered at Monmouth South including general surgery, advanced laparoscopy and pediatric orthopedics.
