Following 25-plus years as executive director, Donald Johansen has announced his retirement from Harrogate, an Ocean County senior living community, effective May 13. Johansen has served in the role since March of 1990, taking over just two years after Harrogate opened its doors in 1988.
“I have truly enjoyed my work through the years, and have developed many wonderful relationships with residents, their families and our outstanding staff,” Johansen said. “There is a continuing bright future for Harrogate, with our new and experienced leadership.”
Charles Benjamin, who has served in the associate executive director role since May of last year, will move into the executive director role. Martin Mee, who comes to Harrogate with over 20 years of experience in health care and senior living, will assume Benjamin’s former role. Mee has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from LaSalle University, as well as a master’s degree in health administration.
“We’re very pleased that Martin has decided to join the Harrogate senior executive leadership team,” said Johansen. “With Charles as executive director and Martin as associate executive director, I know I’m leaving this community that I love in the very best of hands.”
Benjamin and Johansen will share the office of executive director until May 13, giving both Benjamin and Mee the opportunity to settle into their new roles at the community.
